Narrowing in my sights on a small town website redesign, I turned to the town of Brookline, New Hampshire. Brookline is a small town, bordering the state of Massachusetts, with a heavy emphasis on its public school system and beautiful outdoor spots. Its website, on the other hand, neglects to represent these aspects of Brookline. This town website redesign focuses on visualizing the town's personality and highlighting its outdoor hotspots and education system.

Solution

This website redesign of Brookline captures the fun and playful energy of the town through asymmetry and pops of vibrant red, while also leaning into the a more muted and versatile color palette. The micro-animations, inspired by the comparative analysis, adds to the youthful visuals featured in the redesign.

Project documents the creation of the comparative analysis, sketches, wireframes, mood boards, visual compositions, and prototype of the small town website redesign.

Web Analysis

Brookline's website fails to reflect its vibrant and youthful community, appearing generic and lacking character. Additionally, its search functionality is not efficient, and the content and layout do not convey recent activities or the town's personality, making it challenging to understand the community's essence.

Sketches

To emphasize the picturesque natural surroundings and the broader community of Brookline, I opted to integrate additional photos into the website's layout. This will infuse greater personality into the site and enhance its visual appeal.

Wireframes

Through iterative processes, I developed the visual-first approach I initially explored in the sketches, aiming to experiment with striking typography and asymmetrical geometric elements.

Mood Boards

Embracing the youthful vitality of the town, I crafted an energetic mood board that centers around a bold and contemporary visual style, characterized by its playful and modern flair.

Final Compositions

It took several iterations to reach the final composition. Initially, it was too childish, then too stereotypical for a nature-rich rural town. I eventually found the right balance, serving as the basis for micro-animations in the website's prototype.
